When he’s a newborn
When your baby is a newborn, he needs a lot of clothing essentials – but these essentials will change once he grows and gets older. Many of us tend to overbuy at this point simply because we think we must have everything for our baby – but some things are more important than most, such as onesies, gowns, sleepers, and pants or trousers. Onesies, in particular, are essential because your baby will be sleeping a lot.
Invest in about 12 onesies, with long and short sleeves as the seasons change. You should also invest in gowns and sleepers, and around a dozen will do nicely. Choose sleepers that have snaps or zips in front, and gowns are handy as well because you can open them at the bottom to make it easy to change your baby’s diaper.
You also need socks (about 5 to 6 pairs), a sweater, bibs (which are handy when you are either bottle-feeding or breastfeeding), and about 2 to 3 hats.
When he’s 3 months to 12 months old
Once your baby has passed his newborn stage, he will be playing more and sleeping less. At this time, you can continue using onesies (about ten onesies will do), shorts or trousers (around 6 to 8 pairs), sleepers or pyjamas, and around 3 to 4 sweaters.
